LF comments on Maximum Investment Plans
Hiya,
I'm writing an article for Citywire on maximum investment plans, and how clients who took them out decades ago are being stung by 2012 changes to qualifying life policies by making changes to their plan, which could trigger a chargeable event.
I'm looking for comments from tax experts and financial advisers on what advisers need to look at and consider where they inherit clients with historic plans, such as what information is relevant when deciding how to handle them and what should be done.
I'll be referencing several recent FOS decisions around Old Mutual policies where the client extended their policy (or failed to extend it after rule changes meant they were no longer reminded to extend) and how this has impacted their tax affairs.
Looking for comments today please, thank you!
