Journalist: Jake Carter, Mortgage Introducer

ended 19. September 2023

Specialist buy-to-let lender Keystone Property Finance has reintroduced green mortgages to its range.

What is working well in the green space right now?

What is not working well in the green market?

Are you advising clients to look at green mortgages?

The news of keystone adding new green products will have zero impact on brokers recommendations, in the same way that the current green mortgage schemes across the market place will have no impact on clients choice of property or the environment. They remain a box-tick or gimmick.

I would be surprised if Joe Public even knows that green mortgages exist, let alone know what one is. I dont think they are having any effect on the market at all, a properties EPC rating does not seem to rate very highly on what people look for in a house purchase. The discounts offered by a green mortgage are usually a small discount of say 0.1% off the rate, or smaller arrangement fees / cashback, are hardly attractive enough to cause any major market disruption.
