Job market trends

ended 09. June 2025

The ONS is releasing data on jobs tomorrow morning, but what specific trends are you seeing in the jobs market?

  • Has demand for new employees stayed strong in recent months or are companies concerned by the increased National Insurance costs and putting hiring on hold?
  • In your experience is the number of vacancies rising or falling?
  • Throughout 2025 as a whole are you expecting unemployment to go up or down?

Feel free to add a video response alongside your text response as journalists are increasingly keen for multimedia content.

Deadline is midnight tonight.

It’s ice cold in the UK jobs market in June 2025. Hiring has slowed sharply due to higher employer National Insurance and minimum wage costs, the flatlining UK economy, and global economic uncertainty. Job vacancies are down 42,000 from the prior quarter, the 34th consecutive fall, with declines in 13 out of 18 sectors. The official unemployment rate is edging up from 4.4% to 4.5% in April and is expected to rise to 4.8% by year-end, and the number of economically inactive people in the UK due to long-term sickness is simply off the scale.
