Is London becoming more dangerous?

Looking for a security/crime expert's view on whether London is becoming more dangerous in the wake of high profile attacks e.g. the Leicester Square stabbings and crimes such as moped phone theft appearing to be more prevalent. But is the city itself actually dangerous now - or is it simply that we see more of what happens thanks to the internet and social media?
