How Newspage is quietly providing the ultimate credibility boost — and what is coming next
Most of you know all too well that when someone's deciding whether to work with you — a potential client, someone who got your name from a friend — the first thing they do is Google you. Your full name, your company. It happens before they call. It almost always happens without you knowing.
What comes up on that first page of results decides what they think of you. For most business owners, that first page is a mix: a directory listing, a reviews site, LinkedIn, maybe their own website. All of it has its place and good reviews matter.
But there's one thing that sits above everything else as proof of credibility: third-party media verification, namely national newspapers, local newspapers and leading trade titles choosing to quote you as an expert.
Reviews are clients or customers vouching for you, while media coverage is the Daily Telegraph, FT, Daily Express, The Times, Sky News, the Daily Mirror and Daily Mail (etc) vouching for you. Nobody can buy it, nobody can fake it, and everybody instantly understands what it means. That's what a Newspage puts on your page 1 of Google when you use the platform regularly — alongside everything else you've earned.
We’ve just drilled down into this. We checked our 200 most-quoted experts on Google (in a logged-out incognito browser so no favouritism) and the result was: of Newspagers with 100+ pieces of coverage, 86% have their Newspage sitting on page 1 of Google for their own name and company name.
The pattern was crystal clear — the more you're quoted, the more Google puts your Newspage front and centre. Every News Alert you respond to that turns into media coverage makes your Newspage stronger, boosts its SEO and, as our data shows, edges it closer to Page 1 of Google.
Try it yourself. Open a private/incognito browser window and Google your name and your company. If your Newspage is there — that's yours. You own a piece of page 1 simply by parading your expertise through our platform.
What's coming next makes it work even harder for you. In the coming weeks we're upgrading every Newspage:
- Your coverage will appear the moment someone who isn't logged in views your Newspage — so a potential client immediately sees the Daily Telegraph, Sky News or The Times quoting you. Bosh, job done.
- Your Google listing itself will update dynamically. The short description under your Newspage in Google search results (the ‘snippet’) will update automatically to show your total coverage count. So when you've been featured in the media recently, it'll say so right there, before anyone even clicks (though note that, if you've been quiet for whatever reason or are starting out on Newspage, it will simply show your standard business description — nothing negative, ever). In September, once the new UI is live, we’ll also be giving you the option to switch on dynamic search when you feel your Newspage is sufficiently saturated with media coverage that it’s the bee’s knees.
Anyway, one thing keeps all of this working: respond to News Alerts and keep getting your name into the news. Every response that becomes media coverage is another dated, third-party piece of proof of your expertise in front of the people deciding whether to work with you. Translate: the ultimate testimonial.
