How high could gold and silver go in 2026?

ended 23. December 2025

Many are predicting the gold price could surpass $5,000 an ounce in 2026 while the price of silver could top $100. Do you agree this is a possibility? Also, even if they don't hit those heights, are you expecting the price of both to be higher come the end of 2026 — and, if so, does now represent a solid buying opportunity — or is it a risky bet given how high prices are currently? What's your advice to regular investors keen to get exposure to gold? What are the easiest and most tax-effective ways to own it and what % of a portfolio, max, should it typically make up on average (as all client circumstances are different)?

When people think about investing in gold, they usually picture bars, coins or complicated financial products. But there’s a much simpler option that’s often overlooked, namely well-chosen second-hand gold or platinum jewellery. Every day we see people selling pieces they’ve worn and enjoyed for years, and many are genuinely surprised by how much they’re now worth. Instead of an investment that sits in a filing cabinet, this is something you can actually wear and enjoy, with the bonus that it may rise in value over time. There’s also a tax advantage that many people don’t realise. In the UK, most gold jewellery is classed as a personal possession, which means items sold for under £6,000 can be free from Capital Gains Tax, depending on individual circumstances. And for those who prefer coins, UK legal tender gold such as Sovereigns and Britannias are CGT-exempt anyway making this an easy and accessible way for everyday investors to put money into gold.
