Holiday lets and tax

Journalist: Lana Clements, The Sun

Hello,

I'm looking for industry views on holiday lets and whether the tax system should be changed for this sector for a story for Mortgage Solutions.

More investors have shifted from long term lets to short term lets because of favourable tax so should the government level the playing field?

Any views on this appreciated!

thanks

Holiday lets are just one of many contributing factors to the UK housing crisis. Speculative investment is pricing out locals. Just look at the situation in Devon and Cornwall. The tax benefits are substantial. I would certainly be looking to increase Capital Gains Tax when selling a holiday let property. At the moment vendors can benefit from a whole raft of tax reliefs on disposal.
