Google's AI is drawing on Newspage itself — before the media even quote you

until end

Last night, we analysed Google's own Search Console data on how often content sitting on Newspage itself appeared inside Google’s AI-generated answers (the AI Overviews now sitting at the top of search results). Over the past three months, the appearances were daily — but what’s interesting is what Google’s AI is drawing on.

Around a third of everything Google's AI drew from Newspage was the raw content on our News Alerts — the pages where your responses appear. That's before they are published by any media outlet, and before they appear in any finished story. Pretty much everything else Google's AI drew on was your expert profiles, or Newspages themselves.

In plain English, what this means is that, even though media coverage is the Holy Grail and will further boost AI visibility, every response to a News Alert you write is sitting in an environment that Google's AI is now drawing from — irrespective of whether your response makes The Times or Telegraph that day.

In short, simply responding to News Alerts is boosting your visibility, or what the industry now calls GEO (generative engine optimisation). Even if your response doesn't make the lead story on the Mail Online, it's never wasted. And this is just Google as we have yet to analyse ChatGPT, Perplexity and the other AI platforms.

In summary: though media coverage is the ultimate goal of Newspage, just responding to News Alerts regularly is where your AI visibility journey starts.
