Energy efficiency improvement costs

For next Saturday's Money section I am putting together a guide on how much different green home improvements cost. Am looking to commission some research on the costs of the following for a typical semi-detached home:

  • EVs + home charging
  • Heat pumps
  • Solar panels
  • Insulation
  • Double glazing

Would ideally like these costs to reflect any change in prices from this time last year; if any global events (e.g. supply shortages/Ukraine) affect how cheap/easily available they are; and whether there are any government subsidies. Will of course provide credit. This would also need to be from a neutral perspective, i.e. not from a solar panel manufacturer. If you can provide insight into any of the above fields please get in touch.

Because there is so much variation between semi-detached homes, we’ll provide a range here.

Start with low-cost measures:
- Spend less than £40 on Draft Proofing Strips and Seals for windows and small cracks in walls.
- Smart thermostats (£100-£200) and radiator controls (£200-£600) will help you manage your heating by helping you ‘zone’ where you want your heating on and when.
- Top up your loft insulation (£70-£250) or fit insulation if you don't have any. You can DIY this in half a day at the weekend.
