Daily Mirror - Legal comment on employment rights

ended 24. March 2023

A journalist on the Daily Mirror is looking for someone to explain your employment rights if you're working overnight this Saturday, going into Sunday, when the clocks go forward. Could you be asked to finish later? Could you actually end up doing an hour less?

If you’re on shift this weekend overnight say 12-8 you’ll have worked one hour less (when the clocks skip forward) but you should still be paid for 8 hours work. If the boss says well you’ve only worked 7 hours and not 8 can you stay another hour, you could say ‘ I started at 12 and it’s now 8 and that’s 8 hours’. Hopefully not many places will still be taking advantage of employees over this. They get it back in autumn!
