Court fees set to increase in May - how will this impact landlords?

Following a consultation, it has been announced that court fees will be increasing by 10% from next Wednesday. This will apply to almost all fees payable to the court, including:

  • A warrant of possession, which will rise from £130 to £143
  • Enforcing a money judgement, which will go up from £119 to £131
  • Making a possession claim in the county court, increasing from £355 to £391

We are looking to hear the opinions of landlords and BTL brokers on how this chance in court fees will impact landlord. We'd like people to answer these particular questions:

  1. How will this impact the finances of landlords?
  2. Do you expect further court fee increases in the future? If so, by how much?
  3. Could this, together with the lengthy court times, change make landlords think twice about going to court for any tenant issues?

Whilst this is further bad news for landlords, it is just one more drop of pain into the ocean of misery they have been been drowning in over the last few years of regulatory and taxational changes. Again landlords given little option but to take this on the chin.
