Hi all. Would your company take on a client with £20k to invest? If so, or if no, why?

Typically we don’t market our company at clients with this value of liquid assets to invest, however we don’t believe clients should be turned away of priced out of the market. We would be happy to sit down with any client to understand their circumstances and aims and objectives. Sometimes, after these discussions clients realise that they don’t require an adviser, sometimes they are signposted to somewhere more relevant. On other occasions we will work with the client to offer advice and the relationship can develop over many years into a valuable point of contact for the client and a network of introductions for the adviser.

"We would love to be able to help everyone. However, so that we are around for long term and able to serve our clients, we need to ensure we run a profitable business. As long as they are able to pay our minimum fees, and more importantly, that we both believe it is worth them paying for advice, then we would help them. We do have clients with less than £20,000 however this is often children of existing clients who are starting to grow their own wealth."

Yes of course, no matter how much they would like to invest, they are entitled to advice as much as a £1m investor. Advise, start off and guide.

We would and we have, as a business we believe in good financial well-being for everyone regardless of the value of assets they have. We recently helped a client who had a very complicated SSAS that was costing him nearly £1000 a year when he only had investments valued at £9,000. We did give him the information he needed to go direct but he did not feel confident to do it on his own due to what he believed were mistakes he had made previously, for him paying our fee was worth the peace of mind and we were happy to help get him out of a bad situation with the SSAS provider. We are mindful of the fact that the paying a fee must be in the clients best interests and with low value assets it may not always be right for them to pay for financial advice but for this particular client we could see clearly how our advice would benefit him and so could he.

At Becketts Connect, we assist clients with assets less than £100k by using technology to deliver professional financial advice to a segment of the market that is often overlooked. We want to help more people, regardless of their perceived value - those within the advice gap. We assess clients with less than £50k on an individual basis to ensure we can provide them with valuable advice. At this level our charges are transactional or time-costed, keeping in mind the value we offer to clients under Consumer Duty.

This diverse client group includes young families who require protection and HENRY clients. Families face financial responsibilities like providing for their children's education and protecting their family's financial future. HENRY clients, high earners and maybe low assets, often have different priorities such as paying off student debts, saving for their first home, and planning for retirement. Whether they are just starting out or enjoying retirement, we are here to help.

Yes. We'd be happy to play the long game. Just because they only have £20K now doesn't mean that they won't have more later and don't forget this is a client that probably will have a protection and mortgage need to meet too.

I work with clients across all levels of the wealth spectrum, very much including those with £20,000 or less. I have created a way of working that separates financial guidance and coaching from product distribution and management of money. This way, the level of a prospective client's wealth is almost irrelevant. With no regulatory overheads, I'm able to help a wider range of people at lower cost, but it's important to stress I don't offer 'financial advice'. I empower individuals and couples to take control of their own finances through coaching, mentoring and financial education.

As a money coach rather than an adviser, I am here for those who are starting their investing journey. Come on in!
