Are you in a broadband notspot?

ended 27. March 2026

Looking for people who work from home who are in a broadband ‘notspot’, namely a street or area (possibly rural) where the broadband is slow or even outright dreadful (or used to be slow and dreadful, causing you to switch). If that's you, tell us about your experience, especially if you work from home and poor broadband impacted your ability to work. If you're a broadband expert, what steps can people take to get better broadband and are the likes of Starlink now proving a viable alternative to traditional broadband services?  Responses by 13:00 please as filing this story today.

I run a leadership consultancy from my home address, using video calling daily to support my clients. I have been battling inadequate broadband for a decade. FIVE visits from engineers, new copper throughout, spiders nest removed from their box ... and still it's ropey. I am sick of complaining and being asked about my "superfast fibre" (for which I was being charged, mind you!) only to be able to say in all honesty "well, there's a pigeon sitting on it right now". I even had a commercial fibre installation cancelled BY THE COMPANY because they changed their mind and no longer wanted to install fibre in my road! This is, of course, all BT. There is apparently superfast about 250 metres away, and yet our road, with lots of businesses and a care home along it, is not deemed worthy of conversion, despite the national promises. We finally left and went to BT-lite because I don't want to pay three times the price for the same deeply average service to a rural town. Unacceptable.
