Are payday loans back?

I am looking into whether payday loans are making a comeback under the guise of short term loans - with just slightly lower interest rates.

Will more people be opting for this type of loan in the cost of living crisis, thinking it is safe as the sector is now more regulated? People may not be aware that interest rates are still high. 

Also looking to speak to a case study who has taken out such a loan and their experience - did they find interest rates high? Could they pay it back in time? How easy was it to take out?
