Apprenticeships in advice firms?

Journalist: Carmen Reichman, FTAdviser

Dear advisers

How do you feel about the apprenticeship route for advisers?

Have you aver recruited an apprentice? If not, why not?

Some say it's a very good way for keeping candidates with the firm for longer, do you agree? Does the funding model work for advice firms (including the way funding allocation can be gifted)?

Or do you think this model doesn't work at all for advice businesses, whether it's about recruiting for advice roles or any other roles within the business.

Please share your thoughts with us at FT Adviser!

Many thanks

Carmen

The apprenticeship model is an excellent route for advice firms. It provides individuals with an accessible pathway into the sector, allowing them to gain hands-on experience while learning the necessary skills on the job. From a business owner and having recruited apprentices over the last 10 years, this approach supports sustainable growth, ensuring that new talent develops in line with the firm’s specific goals and needs.

Apprentices bring fresh perspectives and new ways of thinking, which can be invaluable in a constantly evolving industry. Additionally, apprenticeships help foster loyalty and long-term commitment, as candidates are more likely to stay with the firm that has invested in their development.
