With the low availability of chips globally this is a chronic under-investment where there is a clear opportunity, in my honest opinion. There's a lack of graphic process units (GPU's) out in the wild right now and this will slow down the progress of AI in the UK.

While there is a large amount of hype around artificial intelligence, the opportunities for investment in AI, data mining, medical imaging and healthcare can't be ignored. There is a long-term play here for the UK, more investment upfront is needed.

This investment supports a strategy of R&D, which the UK is better poised to own IP for. It will attract the world's best talent here, similar to the impact ARM in Cambridge has made without needing a manufacturing plant. The EU can make our chips.
