My story I’m glad that there are more women in the mortgage industry now, as that wasn’t always the case. My mortgage journey was nearly a short one in the early 1980’s after working for a large building society in the mortgage department I left &amp; decided to become a mortgage adviser. I sat in a large well known estate agency as a trainee mortgage adviser, there were 45 in our region and 2 including me were women. It was not a nice environment, and, if we did well, we were told it was because we were women, never because of our capability to do the job. Even the sales team in the my estate agency were men the only woman apart from me was the secretary. I went on courses and did my mortgage exams to become qualified, I was given extra coaching as we had just lived through the disappearance of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh so I was given a whistle &amp; pepper spray to keep me safe. The estate agents would fill up my diary with leads and often they would be late in the evening or at clients home. On this one occasion I went into the gentleman’s house he proceeded to lock the door behind him &amp; show me his gun collection. I was a young newly qualified broker &amp; that event nearly made me change my career but it didn’t. Today 30 years later I’m still in the mortgage industry it’s actually how I meet my husband, we now run a brokerage together. I’m probably one of the longest serving women in this industry and a lot has changed. I encourage woman to join us, working from home and self employed has given women back the power, we can pick the kids up from school and attend sports day and still earn a decent salary.&nbsp; To all the women out there in my industry well done you are part of a huge change in the industry and we should be proud. &nbsp;<blockquote>The industry is changing but it used to be a scary place for a women in finance</blockquote>
