Plans are already in place to make Birmingham a Smart City by 2030 however, the future of the tech industry are not being engaged or feel part of the conversation, this is a problem. Historically tech “meet ups” were typically all about pizza and beer, you would sit, listen then mingle and network but this is part of the issue, there is no appeal from the young people of now, our future tech talent.
Our Smart Brum wants to change the narrative and the way tech meet ups are viewed by everyone, we want to make it more inclusive, appealing and a unique experience for everybody!
Pain points:
- Young people not being able to see people like them in attendance.
- Stigmas around tech meet ups
- Not having the confidence to network

Our Smart Brum will seek to align the tech community and eco-system by giving the Next-Gen of tech talent an opportunity to take part and take centre stage.
Each meet-up will have a different objective and will continually have a new theme / task – from debates, mini-projects, presentations and showcases.
If we are to inspire the next-gen of future tech talent, we must empower them to be part of the conversation now. 2030 is only 9 years away.
