Francois Taljaard and Guy Nyirenda have joined the management team of Altura Mortgage Finance. Taljaard has been working with Altura since last year and recently become a full-time Director. Working under the title of Operations Director, Taljaard is responsible for Operations and Finance, as well as recruitment of advisers and Appointed Representatives. He has already been instrumental in attracting a number of advisers and ARs to the business and has ambitious plans to recruit further advisers and businesses. Nyirenda is joining the business as Head of Commercial &amp; Specialist lending with the remit to launch, lead and develop a market-leading Specialist Lending proposition for Altura. Altura Mortgage Finance is proud to announce its partnership with the Children's Book Project, a renowned charity dedicated to alleviating book poverty and providing every child with the opportunity to own their own book. This collaboration aims to address the alarming statistic revealed by the National Literacy Trust, which states that one in five children aged 5 to 8 lack access to books at home. Research has shown that book ownership has a direct correlation with improved mental health among children, while reading fluency significantly impacts their educational progress. In fact, children from "book-rich" homes exhibit language development that is 10 months ahead of those from "book-poor" homes. The Children's Book Project has made remarkable strides in tackling book poverty, gifting over a million books since inception and 400,000 this year to children through schools and various settings. Altura is thrilled to join forces with this exceptional cause, extending its support through both time and fundraising efforts. Through its regular "book gifting events," the Children's Book Project empowers children by allowing them to choose books they are motivated to read and nurtures reading communities. The majority of the 400,000 books donated this year come from families who are eager to find new homes for books their children have outgrown. By organizing book drives to encourage donations of used books, the charity ensures a supply of pre-loved books that are placed directly into the hands of the families that will benefit the most. Altura's involvement with the Children's Book Project will take two key forms: Volunteer Day: In September, the Altura team will be visiting the project hub in London for a day of hands-on involvement. They will join forces with the Children's Book Project team, sorting and packing books in their warehouse. The goal is to prepare boxes of books for distribution across the capital and beyond, reaching the families that will benefit the most. Donations for Every Piece of New Business: Altura will also contribute financially to the project. For every new mortgage application, protection policy, and general insurance policy written, Altura will make a donation to fund the donation of one book. Furthermore, they will contribute for every referral received from an existing client. Altura joins forces with leading London charity to boost children’s literacy

Altura is proud to announce its sponsorship of mentee Rithik Bagga for a challenging charity desert trek. Rithik will embark on a journey through the harsh and unforgiving terrain of the desert, facing extreme temperatures, difficult terrain, and other challenges that will test their physical and mental endurance. As a part of Altura's commitment to giving back to the community, the company is sponsoring Rithik in the trek. The company believes that by supporting the Rithik, they are not only helping them achieve their goals but also contributing to a great cause. Having experienced dementia at close quarters, when a family friend’s grandmother was diagnosed with dementia, Rithik wanted to raise funds by doing something “that pushes me out of my comfort zone”. “I wanted to do something that was a physical challenge, and that would push me beyond perhaps a running event or mountain climb in the UK. Additionally, I wanted to expose myself to a completely new culture. So, I decided to head to Jordan – a country I have never visited – and sign up for a grueling week-long trek from Dana to Petra.” The trek will cover more than 80 kilometers in searing heat, across the desert before winding through the mountains and legendary red canyons of Jordan’s Rift Valley. The journey ends at the Red Rose City of the Nabateans, in Petra itself, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Taking a week to conclude, Rithik has already started training and changed his diet to prepare for what will be a serious physical challenge when he sets off in September 2023. The 22-year-old second-year Durham student hopes to raise more than £1,700 for Alzheimer’s Research UK – and we’re thrilled to have propelled him a good way towards his target. “Having visited the Alzheimer’s research labs in Newcastle and seeing the amazing work the team do first-hand, I really wanted to undertake a challenge and raise funds to support this groundbreaking science,” Rithik says.
